Kuala Lumpur: A beautiful 23 year-old Thanuja Ananthan was crowned Miss World Malaysia 2009 during the beauty pageant held at at the Sunway Resort in Kuala Lumpur.
The beauty Queen 1.80 m tall will represent Malaysia in Miss World 2009 in South Africa next December. First runner-up is Stefanie Chua and second runner-up is Christy Yeoh.

If you go to globalbeauties.com, she is rated the 12th best contestant for now. I'm sure the rest of the world thinks she's absolutely gorgeous. People in Singapore and Malaysia will never change. To think that the 2nd runner up is better than the winner is absurd! It's not the judges that need their eyes checked - it's the Chinese and Malays who think their own races look better. If Singapore and Malaysia had sent more Tamil girls like her to international pageants, they would have won a crown by now.
To those of you who think Thanuja is not beautiful, the FACT is clear that YOU are the ones who need your eyes checked(and your manners and attitude, too).
Thanuja is motivated, gorgeous, intelligent, witty, and a very kind person. I know her personally, and I speak nothing but the truth.
Thanuja is the best representative Malaysia has seen for years. I commend the judges for their excellent choice, and all the candidates throughout the world who have the courage to enter pageants.
Maybe you foul-mouthed critics should gather up the courage to enter these competitions if you think YOU could do better yourselves, before criticising other young women.

Miss Thanuja is sweet and she looks smart. And I hope she will bring better image to Malaysia when it comes to speaking proper English. I don't mean to insult anyone but I am sure she speaks better English than those two.
She may not be your ideal beauty but it's time that you stopped being mongrels. If you can't give her your blessings, at least try to refrain from criticising. She is a genuine beauty -inside and out- and most importantly a very, very compassionate soul. All that she has said about her love and ambition is nothing but the truth, and mind you, she sticks by what she says. She has had a fantastic upbringing as a righteous Hindu girl with high morality and of great integrity. So, let her do what she has to do from here on.

I am very surprised to read such rude horrible remarks towards this beautiful intelligent winner and also the remarks towards the looks of the Chinese and Malays. God made beauties in EVERY race and in EVERY race you will find one that is not.Nobody asks to be born a certain race.I think Thanuja was chosen because she has the whole package with beauty, height,figure,intelligence,confidence and a good personality and heart and last year someone else was chosen because they fit the same requirement.Thats what makes a contestant win and not the dark or light skin colour ,shape or size of eyes etc.Chinese and Malay women are just as beautiful and it happened that this time the judges ( and God`s will) decided that this young lady stands a chance to win the Miss World title.In the past contestants who have Indian,Chinese and Malays looks have won major beauty contests.I am surprised at the racist comments on this page that I am assuming were left by Indians , Chinese and maybe Malays and hope that they were written by ignorant and uneducated people or little kids who don`t know what they are talking about.Please live in harmony God made EVERY race like all the different dessert made from the same sugar.I am Indian and think that in each Malay , Chinese and Indian race ,there are women who are very beautiful.I don`t understand the reason behind the biting remarks left here by some people.GROW UP !!! I am a very close family member I know all that is about her is real. She is an animal lover from young, humble, loving, intelligent and is a role model for every human being. She is not a Tamil as mentioned but a Malaysian Indian Malayalee who is a very Traditional Hindu at heart. My advice is to stop these racist commments be it whether one is Chinese, Indian, Malay or whatever. Yes, we may have seen many bias judgements in certain contest but there were worthy winners too, though very few. And she is one of them. As a Malaysian of whatever race, we should support her if she has the credentials. And for those with foul mouth racist attitude, thats why you guys will never be there at top and why you are at the bottom of the feet in your character. Grow up fellas.

Well said Global Soul, every Malaysian should unite and see ourselves as Malaysians and not Indian,Malay and Chinese and support Thanuja....by the way that goes for Indians too please stop seperating yourselves with Tamil,Malayalee and Telugu etc.I live in the USA and Indians are Indians not Tamil,Malaysalee,Telugu, Punjabi etc.Anyway,Thanuja ,I don`t know you personally but am very happy to learn that you have a special place in your heart for animals.Hope you will make a change in Malaysia for the better treatment of animals there.
